My brother – a die hard “The Boss” fan was there last night and has written a review – if you’re a fan this is the one to read:-
“Having endured many hours of bands I didn’t really want to see at Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park last year to ensure I had a reasonably good position to see Bruce play, it was a joy to have him and the E Street Band play with no support at Wembley last night. I can’t remember now how many times I’ve seen him live now – I try and go when he comes to the UK so it has been 7 or 8 times over the last 20 years or so, but last night really emphasised the fact that you really don’t know what you are going to get with one of his shows.
Despite being a tour on the back of the “Wrecking Ball” album, this wasn’t a promotional concert at all. Out of the 31 songs played last night, only 4 were from that album. The others were a mix from a long and varied career including rarities such as the brilliant “Lost in the Flood” and “Jackson Cage”. He seemed to collect the request banners very early, and a few songs in he offered to either continue with the requests or to play the whole of the “Darkness at the a edge of Town” album from start to finish.
I love most of Bruce’s albums (I’m not so keen on “Born in the USA” – too poppy) but “Born to Run” and “Darkness” are my favourites and it was a no- brainer which was the preferred option. A fantastic treat to have every song played from that album straight through with real feeling. Roy’s piano on “Racing in the Street” just perfect and hearing “Candy’s Room” live has been on my wish list for years now.
Jake seems to have settled in well and seems a more proper member of the band now rather than a replacement for his uncle, although the salute to Clarence and Danny during “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” was very poignant.
The sound at Wembley wasn’t great – too echoey for my liking, but the weather held up, no-one pulled the plug and Bruce did his thing for over 3 hours, finishing with a beautiful acoustic version of “Thunder Road”. A great night all in all. Bruce might not be showing his age, but I seem to be – my feet, legs and back hurt like fuck afterwards”.

June 19, 2013I too am a die hard ‘The Boss’ fan and have seen him at least once every time he tours the UK, last year in Manchester had much better sound quality and I agree the sound wasn’t great at Wembley. Thank for the write up to me the last hour when all the fans were on their feet was pure magic. Like you my feet, legs and back hurt like hell and the walk back to the Hotel was hell on earth as I was also bursting for a pee!

June 21, 2013Well maybe I got lucky standing directly in front of the soundstage tent but I thought the sound was great – much better than the last two concerts in Hyde Park -= and song choice and vocals also much better – an awesome performance . Losing count but about my 18th concert since I first saw the Boss in 1981 and I think the best since then – and that only better because it was my “first time” and I sat abouchrist 3 yards ( see how old I am !! ) away from the man and got his sweat and water over me !!
