I was invited to the launch of Tracey Emin’s new range of products at her Emin International Shop in Spitalfields (45 Crispin Street, E1 6HQ to be precise) yesterday. It was perfect because I had meetings in town (YES I KNOW, PROPER MEETINGS IN TOWN – VERY IMPORTANT ONES) so I was able to pop in with my friend on the way home.

It was brilliant – we met Tracey, chatted with her about all manner of stuff, listened to her doing some readings all about her Independent newspaper columns, about her father and how she has a thing about helicopters….and she also signed a card for our friend who was celebrating her 50th birthday. A card by Tracey Emin was the perfect card for her – we wanted one with a vagina on the front ideally and found a sketch of a naked woman – having explained to Tracey that she had recently had a vagina operation (don’t ask) she actually wrote her out a whole card. It was brilliant – our friend now has a personal card from Tracey all about her vagina – and when we gave it to her last night she couldn’t have been happier!

The shop was PACKED. It’s very sweet. Full of brilliant pictures and sketches, books and now cups and other household objects all in Tracey’s signature style. What seemed to be selling very well too was her new series of handmade Rosettes which looked very unusual. she obviously loves embroidery too. Non profit making too. FYI.

I was invited to that as well, but I had horrid flu and couldn’t get there. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. 🙂

I’m much better now, thank you. I had purchased an Emin at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition this year and was so looking forward to going to her shop. I hope they keep me on their mailing list. x

I did the same!! Did you get the little bird or a vagina? My daughter refused to let me buy a vagina so I’ve got the little bird – sure you will now forever be on the mailing list. If not and I’m still on it I’ll let you know when I get another invitation Lx

Oooh this looks fab. I’m still not sure I could actually say the word ‘vagina’ without sniggering, mind you x
