I was suitably appalled when my daughter came back wearing this sweatshirt from Ibiza. HOW INAPPROPRIATE. She can’t go round wearing things like that on the front of her chest – isn’t that just asking for trouble?
“Mum, it’s David Guetta’s cool stuff” which is apparently supposed to make it all OK.
Then she desperately wanted me to buy her a top in Urban Outfitters that had a picture of a bike on it and the words “Free Ride” underneath.
“OF COURSE I”M NOT GOING TO BUY YOU THAT” I told her.
“WHAT MESSAGE DOES THAT GIVE EVERYBODY”?
It’s a disaster this clothing business. Bad enough when you’re worrying about them wearing clothes that are age inappropriate, but now there are all these rude logos about and she’s old enough to shop for herself it’s a nightmare.
She thinks I”m being ridiculous, that messages do not mean there is an invitation to “approach” her and that it’s just funny. I get that, but surely not everyone will see it like that?

July 24, 2011I’m glad mine are grown up now and I don’t have these battles. To be honest, even 10 years ago these kinds of clothes weren’t around, certainly not in mainstream stores. Hold on to your standards – she has to know what you think, even if you can’t stop her from wearing them. One day she’ll be grateful. Honest!
