A very happy 23rd birthday to my youngest and tallest child. He’s come a long way since the early days of my blog.
This is a late entry as his birthday was actually back in July, but I’ve been too busy culling my blog to have been getting any actual posts done.
One of the quotes I’d written down in the early days was as follows:-
I took my 7 year old off to buy some strange little plastic creatures after school today. He has been desperate for them for at least 3 minutes and wanted to spend his Easter money (in lieu of an egg from me) on them. “Please can we go today? They’ve all got them at school now. If we go today I promise I’ll start eating vegetables and I won’t smoke.”
Well, he didn’t keep either of those promises.
Over the years I’ve written about how he was my most sensitive child. He had a lot to deal with back then (as we all did), but he’s come out of the quagmire and emerged as a beautiful adult. He survived the divorce, lost a shed load of weight, grew about 6 feet, dealt with his uni lockdown experience well, got his degree and now HE ACTUALLY HAS A JOB! He’s happy, grounded, kind, funny and a joy to be around. I’m a very proud mother. As a gesture, I’ve finally got round to sorting out his revolting bedroom. He’s been sleeping on a mattress up there in a tip and it’s currently being painted by one of his mates (who is watching a lot of YouTube videos on how to decorate a bedroom). He’s actually going to have his first ever bed (he didn’t even get his own cot as we had one anyway) and his first ever bedside table. Exciting times!! And really it should have been done years ago, but I’m not good with household jobs.
We had a great day out on his actual birthday. I took him out for lunch at Scott’s in Richmond, with my other son and a good friend of his which was a massive treat for us all:-

I consider this to be the best prawn cocktail I’ve ever had:-

We went back home to open his presents when his sister arrived after work:-

Then in the evening he arranged a pub night, not only with his friends but with his family. His dad came with his wife and all the step-siblings were there too. It was the first time we had all been together for a long time and it actually went really well!
