It’s my grandmother’s 95th birthday today. 95!!!! How cool is that? Here she is showing off. I mean who can’t put their hands on the floor like that at her age? I’d like to think that she will have passed her natural longevity genes down the line, but sadly her rude health is more down to the fact that she doesn’t drink, she’s never smoked, she eats brown stuff and fresh vegetables all the time, she never snacks between meals, spends all day gardening and she’s never had a filling because she doesn’t eat sweets. At this rate not only is she going to outlive her children, she’s going to outlive her grandchildren.
It is quite obvious that I come entirely from my father’s side of the family – who lasted quite a long time because they successfully managed to pickle their inner organs in gin.
I have spent most of today trying to get out of jury service. It suddenly dawned on me this morning that it wasn’t just about being nosey and getting off work and avoiding looking after my children….I was going to have to find indefinite cover for my classes and find somebody to pick my children up from school everyday and look after them until I got back and all of that was going to cost me a lot of money. This is not good. I have written them a letter explaining that as I am a self-employed single parent I would make a nightmare juror because I would be hideously stressed. By the time I finished detailing my problems, even I was feeling sorry for myself. Lets hope that works then.
PS: In case you were wondering – my grandmother is not so healthy that she has green leaves sprouting out of her bottom, its just a pot plant behind her.
