My son had to hand his first piece of Religious Education homework in at his new school. He was asked to bring in a “symbol” that was important to him. I didn’t really want to influence his choice but was a little surprised when he printed this off – especially given that it is Builder Bloke’s team and not the one he was originally supporting last season:-
I figured that maybe they could then all have a discussion about how football is considered to a sort of religion in this country by many……
However, he came back a little dejected today because he said everybody else either had a picture of their family or a cross.
Oops.

September 28, 2010It’s ok my daughter took a photo of her recorder in as it was her first musical instrument. She also came home saying a photo of family or a cross would have been a better idea. At least your son was touching some form of religion!!!

September 29, 2010To be fair, I don’t think the teacher has seen it yet, he’s just checked out all the other’s before they handed them in Lx

September 29, 2010If they (the children) were asked to bring in a ‘symbol’, one could argue that most of the others got it wrong; people, as in a family photograph, is/are not by definition a ‘symbol’! I’d give him full marks for ‘getting it right’.
Having watched an extraordinary documentary last night on Scientology, produced by the BBC,the word ‘religion’ certainly needs re-classification.
