I am now officially brain dead. The sun has fried what little cells I had left in my head. I can´t remember what I´ve already told you apart from my ridiculous jogging moment that took me two days to recover from. I have done very little today. I was lying next to my brother on the sun lounger saying to anybody who was listening that I couldn´t even be arsed to get up and get my book and my brother agreed…”I know what you mean, I can´t even be bothered to go and do a poo”.
We had a lovely meal out last night. It seems quite quiet everywhere for the height of summer. Tourism is obviously an important part of the island´s income and apparently business is at least 25% down on this time last year. In addition people are eating out less as everything is more expensive.
The island of Menorca is lovely. Gorgeous beaches. White houses everywhere. We went to Mahon (or Mao) the other day. It has a very pretty harbour with a marina housing boats the size of a house. One of the boats was not only huge but gold. Very ostentatious. It was all a bit of a nightmare getting a large group of us around the city. My mother can´t walk very far because of her back and my niece is only 4 and gets tired easily. Two of my children wanted to go one way, the other another. My father wanted a beer. I wanted a coffee. My brother wanted food. Somebody else wanted to go and look at the boats. My daughter wanted to go and look for print dresses. Somebody else wanted shoes. It meant that the experience was marginally unsatisfactory for all concerned.
I´ll go back later in the week with my daughter and do some serious checking out the shops. Leaving the boys to fish or drink beer or fart.
My teenage son has been fishing with my brother all day today. I´m really pleased. I suspect that it’s the longest amount of time he´s ever gone without attaching himself to something that requires electricity and has a screen. Very good to switch off completely like that from his techno world and be at one with nature even if it does involve the killing of innocent fish. They will put most of them back, only bringing home, gutting and BBQ´g anything big enough for us to eat. Not holding my breath that they´ll be feeding 11 of us with their catch. We’ll see.

1) I’ve been reading through your posts and am really enjoying your insights. Thanks for taking the time to keep up the blog!

I work with Jon and since you are a thought leader whom I respect I’d love to get your feedback about dealing with negativity in the workplace and people’s daily lives.

August 1, 2008Hi…"anonymous"…I did Spanish & (Italian) too at Uni and speak them fluently. I reckon the main thing with language is to have a go! The Spanish certainly don't mind…they are pleased if you have a try no matter how it comes out!
