We’ve been sightseeing in Sydney today. So far, out of all the cities I’ve been to in the world, this is my favourite. Just gorgeous.
We started off our lovely day by meeting friends for breakfast in Balmoral in a gorgeous cafe overlooking the beach – Bather’s Cafe within Bather’s Pavillion which is housed in the old changing rooms and owned by the famous chef Serge Dansereau. You really couldn’t find a better place to sit and eat with friends anywhere in the world – especially with the weather being so divine too. Just look at the view:-

Then we took the ferry from Manley beach to Circular Quay which gives you spectacular views of the harbour:-

You can now climb up Sydney Harbour Bridge – but that looked WAY too much like hard work, although my daughter would have loved to do it. I decided that you probably need to book in advance (that was my excuse anyway) :-

Then we went to look at The Opera House. We did the cheap tour which consisted of checking out the loo’s – you can go on a tour of the whole building which is meant to be very interesting, but my children didn’t want to do it.
From there we walked to the Botanical Gardens and followed the sound and smell of the fruit bats – otherwise known as “flying foxes”. They have established a large colony in the middle of the park. I remember them residing in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne Botanical Gardens years ago, but they managed to get rid of them somehow. I don’t blame them. They bloody stink. My daughter thought they looked just like foxes peeping out of bin liners:-

Then we walked across to the Rocks area of the harbour, the original part of Sydney and had some food and strolled around.
All very easy and accessible and lovely.

April 12, 2010Only been back two weeks and you are making me feel nostalgic. I agree its a great city and the food, well I am feeling the consequences of that as I type. Have bitten the bullet and gone back to the gym and am counting the Weight Watchers points like a ‘born again healthy eater’ lovely photos

April 14, 2010If you still have time you can go up the south pylon without booking. I think it only costs about $10 and you walk up and there is a viewing platform. You can stay there as long as you like and the view is great. You can watch everyone climbing the bridge close up. I’ve climbed the bridge too but you have to book ages in advance and it costs about $300 or more and you are only actually on the bridge for half an hour. The rest is going through the procedure, dressing in their flattering boiler suits etc. Mind you the bit where you climb up a ladder and come up between 2 moving trains is pretty good. I nearly lost it for good then!
