The new single use plastic ban comes into force today in England – but what about vapes?
Plastic cutlery and plates are no longer allowed to be served, which is a good thing, despite it seemingly being quite a shock for the hospitality industry. Not sure what they’re going to be using instead, certain types of polystyrene cups and containers are also banned.
Research shows that people across England use 2.7 billion items of mostly plastic single use cutlery and 721 million single use plates every year, with only 10% of these being recycled.
But what about the rise of the single use vapes? Shouldn’t these be included in the ban? I mean, much as I love them, they are truly atrocious. Addictive and attractive. How are cigarette packets all brown and boring now and yet vapes come in gorgeously bright colours that are tempting at any age. Young kids are buying them and becoming addictive and all that wasted plastic, let alone all the other health issues to consider.
Surely now would be a good time to chuck them into the mix?
