Had a lovely day yesterday. The Christening was gorgeous and we had a fantastic lunch back at my friend’s house afterwards. My ex’s girlfriend didn’t come which was a relief and we managed to be quite civil to each other throughout the day which was good.

After a lovely relaxed lunch I had to rush off to hideous manic children’s party. However as far as my 8 year old was concerned he had a fantastic day.

I am thinking about Andrea Collins Smith’s memorial today and all the people she has left behind. I wish I could have been there. That’s the downside of blogging. You begin to feel as if you really know someone and then you find that you are on the other side of the world and can’t be involved in their “real” world. Anyway, I’m there in spirit. Or in cyberspace.

It was the same feeling I had recently when the children told me that their father was taking them to Tanzania and Kenya on safari for their summer holiday. My first thought, even before, “they can’t go they haven’t had their vaccinations” or “what if they get eaten by a lion” was “they can’t go without me to Tanzania because I have a new blogging friend there and I want to go too when they go on safari to see the elephants that feature in her blog so that we can all meet up.

Anyway, that crisis has been averted as I hear from the kids that they’re off to America instead. I am going to try and be more grown-up this time and to think of it just as a school trip. Apparently they’re going to hire a small plane and fly over The Grand Canyon. What if the plane crashes? I would want to be there too if that was the case. Couldn’t live without them. However. I MUST NOT THINK LIKE THAT. They will be fine and have a lovely time (if that’s possible without me – which clearly it isn’t).

    CLEARLY, having a good time without you is not possible. Remember that. And be sure to have lots of wine in the house when they are gone.

    I’m sure they’ll have a lovely time and miss you like crazy. Make a list of all the things you can’t do when they’re around … and then do them when they’re gone!

    How about having a pyjama party while they are gone?

    Invite some of your girlfriends over — watch some chick flicks, paint your nails, gossip, drink wine …and laugh.

    Or maybe have one of those home “sex toy parties”

    ::blush::

    Swings and roundabouts, Lulu. And of course they won’t have the same sort of fun without you – that’s for sure. I can remember that feeling, but my ex only ever took them to grotty old Butlins or to Paris to see his new Ma-in-Law (and he only took them there because it was free)! Enjoy your space and welcome them back with open arms. M xx
