My 8 year old announced at about 3 minutes before school this morning that he was in the swimming gala today and needed not only swimming kit but a pair of pyjamas. We managed to get everything together, but unfortunately didn’t have time to scrub him from head to foot. He is absolutely covered in HUGE tattoos – he got them as a present for his birthday and used them all at the same time, slapping them all over him. I even helped him put the huge one just above his bum, before we went out last night. How embarrassing. I didn’t know he was going to be doing a bloody swimming gala. By way of reassurance he said “don’t worry mum I’ll just tell them that you put them on when I was asleep”.

Those tattoos can be hard to get off too. Don’t worry even if the teachers are horrified, I’m sure the other kids will be mightily impressed.
p.s. Read about your son’s birthday – what a lovely post that was.

Just curious – when your son has special events at school, aren’t you notified? When a friend’s son (same age as your dear son) has an event at school, a note is put into his bookbag/back pack. Of course, most of the time she forgets to check it.

Yes, would normally be notified, but this one is one they don’t like the parents to attend and the children are “chosen” at the last moment – same every year, although he hasn’t been asked before to participate. It’s not like their sports day where we know about it months in advance. I dread to think what he looked like Lx
