Some years ago now, I made a terrible mistake. I produced homemade Easter eggs for my children - solid and full of surprises. Since then, hollow supermarket bought eggs just haven't been allowed - you can see why. Homemade ones must weigh about a ton.
So. Anyway, I had to of course make two in advance of my daughter disappearing down to stay with my mother. As long as you have a mould they're remarkably easy. Barely took any time.
You can melt chocolate of your choice - Cadbury's, Galaxy in the microwave - initially about 100g for the base.
Then add what you want:-
Chopped up marshmallows
Walnuts (if you want a rocky road which is my favourite)
Raisins
For the kids they like;
Smarties
Skittles
White chocolate buttons
Crunchie
Toblerone
Anything really
My mother likes
Orange chocolate
Orange smarties
Sprinkle all that stuff in and then layer another 100g of melted chocolate on the top and put in the fridge. I just wrap them in foil afterwards and put in cellophane bags with their names on. They would fight to the death if it wasn't VERY clear who's was who's!!
Here is a picture of my daughter's egg this year before I poured on the final layer of chocolate - not sure she's going to love the Skittles option....
