WHAT IS GOING ON???  Just when I’m ready to apply for my 60+ London Oyster card (allowed two weeks in advance of your birthday), the bloody site is down and has been for weeks.  It means that no one can apply for any Oyster cards – not even the 16+ unless you’re getting a replacement.  Why is it still down and why is there very little information about what has actually happened and what it means for Londoners?  They do seem to be doing a phased approach whereby some are now available, but it is quite strange.

I’m wondering if it’s a Labour intervention.  A bit like the Winter Fuel Payment.  Perhaps they’re cottoned on to the fact that many Londoners don’t actually need free public transport and they’re going to introduce a means test.  I can’t say I would blame them – I think it’s madness to give everyone over 60 a free pass – BUT it’s the only thing I’ve been looking forward to acquiring (that and the free prescriptions) in the next few weeks.  All my over 60 friends rave about it and I suppose it does make them use more public transport – probably to the detriment of Uber and black cab drivers.

There is not much to be excited about as I shortly move into my next decade….it seems immensely old – so I’m hoping the site is rectified soon so that you can find me on any number of buses touring around London in my spare time.

Here’s my London bus print by the wonderful Frank Kiely who loves a good old London bus:-

This is not my card by the way – it’s the one on their website that I can’t currently access:-
