I am unexpectedly LOVING “The Elegance Of A Hedgehog” book that I am currently reading for my book group. It always feels so indulgent to be able to read more than a few pages at a time of a book and this has added to my enjoyment. It’s just such a lovely story, simply and interestingly written.
Today I read the lines:-
“We all have a knowledge of harmony, anchored deep within. It is this knowledge that enables us, at every instant, to apprehend quality in our lives and, on the rare occassions when everything is in perfect harmony, to appreciate it with the apposite intensity”.
“This greatness will emerge from within a certain ordering of ordinary things and from the certainty that all is as it should be, the conviction that it is fine this way”.
…and for a brief moment, reading this in the sunshine next to our merry throng, it feels like all is as it should.
Right in the present, right here, right now, all is harmonious (mostly when I’m reading a book about truth and enlightenment and not anywhere near the latest raucous laughter that has occurred because one of them has farted very loudly or burped “antidisestablishmentarianism”). It is quite bizarre considering that we are actually in complete chaos here. A villa that is a little too small for so many bodies and a cacophony of noise at all times. Not even enlightened noises – left to their own devices this bunch of boys (and I have to include BB in this) spend their entire time singing lines from songs, watching and quoting “Friends”, discussing what we are going to eat next (and would you believe we have already had curry FOUR times), the Olympics, farts, burps and fishing. That’s it. Nothing more. Although I have learnt a few new words – “PENG” for example
Normally I am thinking and worrying too much about life. Plans. Where I am. What to do about it. Flitting in and out of LISTS and things to do when I’m home. So, it’s a good feeling to take a deep breath, relax and just let it all simply just be.
