The Police have definitely still got what it takes. Sting’s voice sounded better than ever and clearly, if you are planning a comeback tour after nearly 25 years it helps if:-

a)you have still got an impressive amount of hair between you,
b)you have a string of memorable hits (even if the lyrics are a bit dodgy),
c)you have had so much time on your hands between world tours that you have managed to fit in quite a lot of yoga and tantric sex and consequently look really fit and relaxed and beautifully toned.

It was a faultless, extremely tight and slick performance and the packed to capacity crowd was so with them that they could have done no wrong.

They saved one of my Top 10 all time favourite songs for the encore “Every Breath You Take” and my brother reminded me that it was written about his divorce all those years ago. I told him that I was quite sure he was completely wrong, that the one written about his divorce was “Do Do Do, Da Da Da, that’s all I want to say to you”, which seemed much more appropriate.

When they came to Hong Kong in about 1980, they played at a tiny venue. I unfortunately was not there, but lots of my friends still talk about how they all lined up to snog Sting, who was more than willing to oblige. What a missed opportunity.

I had an invitation to go on the Sunday night from Builder Bloke at the last minute – I initially declined on the basis that it seemed entirely greedy to go two nights running. I therefore suggested that he take his ex-wife, given that they are her favourite band and the two of them hadn’t been getting on terribly well. He took my advice and rang her. He said “would you like to go with me to The Police?” and she nearly had a heart attack, thinking that he meant they needed to go down to the station to take a witness statement about something to do with their divorce…quite funny.
