Today it has been announced that London is the tourist capital of the world after the number of foreign visitors to the capital increased by 20% last summer. So a friend of mine just hosted an American girlfriend for the weekend and she did some gorgeous things. I thought I’d offer you some thoughts on what sort of stuff to do as a tourist if you are in London for the weekend and like doing lovely things. Most of this stuff you will need to book in advance, so I’ve added some links:-
Firstly, book for a meal at The Shard so that you can enjoy the spectacular views of London. Hutong is a fabulous Chinese restaurant on the 33rd floor and I’d most definitely prefer to do that than pay to go and look at the view. Alternatively you can actually just stroll in and have a cocktail in one of their bars.

Then go to Borough Market which is at the bottom of The Shard and wander around enjoying Ye Olde English feel – all very Dickensian and gorgeous and you’ll get some amazing photos.
Then maybe try Fortnum and Mason’s for tea and a stroll plus maybe a visit to the Royal Academy of Arts which always has a good exhibition on or The Wolsely for coffee/lunch/afternoontea/dinner is amazing in an old art deco building and you’ll love it.
Covent Garden is always good to stroll around, see what’s on at The Donmar Warehouse – if you plan in advance you may get tickets – it’s a tiny theatre – fabulous as in the round and plays are exceptional in general and it’s a great area to wander around with lots of lovely shops, restaurants and hotels.
Alternatively book to see anything at the theatre in the West End as a big part of the London experience (except when half the ceiling falls on your head).
