Oh dear. My son and his mates are making their way to Vang Vieng in Laos – the latest party town to hopefully not drown. I am sending out an advanced box of armbands for them to pick in advance and some helmets and knee pads. They haven’t been very specific about the address to send them to thus far though. Can’t think why.
The parents left at home are all getting a little anxious but there is nothing we can do. It’s good that we’re all friends – the boys have all known each other since they played football together from aged 5 and so we’ve had a lot of standing on the sides of football pitches together. One family have since moved to Australia. I had a call from the dad yesterday asking me if I could help track down his son. That seems to be the way it’s working best. If I can’t get hold of my son, I ask somebody else. One of the mothers generally confirms (because they’re just about to call in and ask for more money) that they are able to pass on the message.
The email I received this morning from another mother asked if we could help track down her son – she’d heard he was in hospital having had an operation on his foot.
OPERATION FIND OUR SON gets efficiently underway and we all email and text our respective offspring.
I sent her an email back later today saying “sorry – best I could do” as my son replied:-
“He didn’t have an op just had to get some shit out of his foot. Its bandaged up but he’s fine like he can walk on it and he’s just on antibiotics.
Think it mustve been some glass in his foot or something. We’re in Chiang Khong for the night and then getting the slow boat to Luang Prabang for a couple of nights and then getting the bus to Vang Vieng.
Hope all is ok at home xx”
So all good then.
So far.

April 18, 2012S**t, this is the place written about in The Observer magazine the other Sunday….to me it actually sounds vile; I’d much rather see the real Laos rather than a ‘westernised’ pleasure beach…but hey, I’m old. Hope they take care and don’t drink too much of the local brew…(Fat chance!)
