My teenage son seems to be amassing some sort of weapons armoury. Parcels keep arriving from all around the world. Yesterday, a laser pen he ordered from Ebay arrived from Hong Kong. He is awaiting some lethal slingshot too.
I am not happy about it. He thinks the laser pen is very cool but I am immensely worried. “DON’T POINT IT AT ANYONE IT WILL MAKE THEM BLOW UP” I was shouting…”YOU’LL BURN OUT SOMEBODY’S RETINA’S” , “YOU’LL CAUSE A FATAL AIRCRAFT DISASTER” and “THE CAT IS ABOUT TO SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST” and so on. I don’t trust him. He tells me however to chill….he only wants to burst balloons with it. Yeah right. Although, if I’m honest, I don’t actually know what they are for. I don’t know if I’m meant to be really worried because they are considered hugely dangerous and I’m therefore being a completely irresponsible parent or if they are generally used in meetings for pointing at maps and things. It could be like getting worried about them using a knife and fork.
I think I might need to check his bedroom for signs of depression and angst. What should I be looking for? Balaclava’s? Strange posters? Letters?

It’s a phase, Lulu – he’ll grow out of it. Really.

April 24, 2008I might worry about the slingshot – it might be illegal. But he’ll grow out of all of it ….quite soon.. Flick x

April 24, 2008Yeah! He WILL grow out of it. Too bad though that all these things you don’t want him to have are so easily available on the internet.

April 24, 2008Oh dear Lulu, I remember finding all sorts of things my children acquired, hidden away, long after the event. I agree, it’s a phase – in fact just about everything is a phase, when you come to think of it! M 🙂
