Next Saturday is World Lion Day and John Rendall – the man who bought Christian the lion from Harrods pet shop many moons ago and then some time later found himself with a viral internet hit on his hands as he and his mate were reunited in Kenya with Christian who had subsequently gone on to develop his own pride. It is the most astonishing piece of footage and one that always makes me cry.
Anyway – the man himself is going to be at Sophisto-Cat next Saturday between 10am and 5pm signing his books and chatting about his experiences. There is also a photographic exhibition and information on how to help spread the word about the plight of lions in the world today all on behalf of the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Fund.
When Christian went to Kenya there were over 30,000 in Kenya.
Today there are less than 2,000.
(less than 20,000 in the whole of Africa… Even less than there are Rhinos)
He would love to see you there….
Here’s the invitation if you can make it:-
Apparently there is a wonderful Italian restaurant at the Pagliaccio eatery next door too…
