I am still in shock. How is the church supposed to convince us now that they are not a hugely sexist organisation that doesn’t promote opportunity for all. It is hard to think of any other UK institution or organisation with a blanket ban on women in senior positions. The rejection of women Bishops to the general synod of the Church of England will have a dire effect on our view of the church and it’s role in society I suspect. I thought it was going to be one of those moments in history where logic would override the bigoted old views, but instead it feels as if they managed to wheel out enough old school voters to stop it going through. They lost by six votes and now I hear that it will be another five years before they can have another vote again. Is that true?
Why does The Dark Crystal keep springing to mind:-

November 22, 2012What really, really bugs me is that it wasn’t the priests and bishops that blocked the vote but the laity – people like you and me who evidently are prepared to tell the world that they don’t believe women are suitable to lead…
