In this year’s New York Times Places to go in 2015 , Adelaide was placed 24th. This caused a small stir amongst the antipodeans prompting the question “why”? My friend, currently living in Melbourne was curious to find out more – the article mentioned the food, the wine and more!
She discovered that it certainly has a lovely relaxed and genuine vibe, none of the brashness of Brisbane, the slickness of Sydney or the remoteness of Perth.
Five facts about Adelaide:
- It is the home of the world renowned Penfolds Grange
- One of the few places with a half an hour time difference
- The yellow taxi company has white cabs
- It takes 20 minutes to go anywhere
- Semi detached house are a historical feature
The cafe’s and restaurants all boast the provenance of the local produce and rightly so, as showcased in Sean’s Kitchen based in the old railway station and George’s on Waymouth. But honestly, if you were visiting Australia , a country larger than Europe , you would perhaps want to visit this city as well as The Rock, The Rainforest and The Reef.
