I hadn’t realised when I got my invitation to the Asprey party quite how salubrious an event it is. When we were told that Meryl, George and Brad had RSVP’s I couldn’t believe it…. What a splendid evening, spent mulling around talking to various people and even a few celebrities. Ton’s of people all waiting outside to catch a glimpse of all the stars:-

John Hurt was there and I had a brief chat (about his shoes) but really I should have told him that “Elephant Man” is my all time favourite film and he so deserves to win the award for long term contribution.  Gary Oldman was there as a nominee for Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy with his beautiful partner. I spotted Stephen Fry and Zoe Ball and Alexandra Roach who has had a meteoric rise in her career since recently leaving RADA having just finished playing the young Margaret Thatcher. Who else? Viola, the star of The Help the gorgeous James from War Horse.

I talked to Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran for ages too because he and I used to travel the world together….of sorts. I went on a promotional trip with them when I worked at EMI in the late 80’s. Went with the whole band to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and Singapore – it was there that I was forced to do something that I still have nightmares about – sing a duet in a Karaoke bar with Simon Le Bon – when you can’t sing at all can you imagine anything worse – it was like walking naked down Oxford Street.

Anyway. No photos of the event which is probably just as well because I came straight from the Pilates course I’m doing in ante and post natal pregnancy because I looked a mess. Got to go back today so that’s why I’m writing this in haste. Will tweak later. Also gutted because I was meant to go to my real live Texan friend Tex Mex party and experience it all properly – I would have loved to do that. It’s just that I had to wait so long for the Hollywood stars not to turn up that we had no time left at the end. Oh well, they had a spectacularly good turn out from the British contingent of Bafta nominees.
