Happy Back to school day to you all out there…..

My youngest child starts a new school today. He didn’t even want me to take him ON HIS FIRST DAY. He wanted to go on the bus with his mates in his new shiny uniform.

I am officially redundant as a mother.

This is very depressing news.

This is also very exciting news.

This is also not very realistic news.

He will be back in a few hours with hopefully (and I am keeping everything crossed all day) lots of happy, excited chat about what his day was like.

I just want him to be happy at his new school. It didn’t work out at the last one in the way we wanted it to and it has been a very difficult time.

So fingers crossed that all will be well. That he’s got the right sort of bag, shoes, hair and mainly attitude for all the possibilities ahead of him……

Several years ago my eldest son won a top school prize (can’t remember what for but I know he got a book and a hug from the chairman of the governors). I wasn’t there to see it because I was on safari in Kenya. I felt very, very guilty and spent hours trying to find a phone signal but he couldn’t have cared less.

I think that we have an obligation to desert them at critical moments in their lives. Otherwise they will have nothing to draw on when they are older and need to talk about how badly-done to they were.

    Have a fabulous time x
