I have just come back from 24 hours with my parents. Normally people of my age go to stay with their parents to have a little bit of a rest and feel better when they come back. In my case, when I go to my parents I come back with the worst hangover I’ve had since….well, since last time I saw them.

We had a lovely evening talking rubbish and not remembering much about it the next day because we succumbed to the whisky at the end of the evening and that is always a BAD thing. Builder bloke came with me which was MUCH better than I thought it was going to be – it helps that he thinks my father is the funniest man he’s ever met, because obviously my father likes that a lot. In addition, he managed to get my father’s undivided attention for longer than I’d hoped (I think I went to bed owing to severe boredom at that point) when he admitted to playing golf off 2 (if that means anything to anyone out there).

It’s the start of half term for two of my children who consequently aren’t here tonight. My 8 year old had his eye test yesterday at the opticians and they don’t think he needs glasses. They also commented that it was impossible for him to have the double vision he was referring to whilst covering one eye. So don’t know what’s going on there. My father said he used to get a similar thing – when things got a bit blurry and pixellated – he said, “it’s a digestive problem….all he needs is a really good crap”. Which, as it happens is my father’s answer to everything.

I’ll keep an eye on him this week (no pun intended). Maybe his obsession with wearing glasses will go away or maybe there is a problem….I hope we don’t have the same walk to school as on Friday. If he tries the “I can’t even see that tree” thing again, I may have to point out the ridiculousness of that statement.

One thought – during one of my pregnancies I developed double vision. This is something they get very worried about here, so I was whipped into the neurologist’s. After a few tests it turned out I was having migraines without the headaches! I have had painful migraines before but I usually get tunnel vision, so this was new. If he’s also getting headaches, has anyone thought of migraines? They can be brought on my stress.

My uncle suggested migraines as a possible answer – I didn’t know you could get them without getting a headache – interesting….Lx

How funny that you attack the whisky at your parent’s house. Great that the bloke went too – and playing off 2 is a seriously good handicap. He must be a great golfer as well… M xx
