Last night I sat through, what is for me the worst event of the year. “End of Season Football Presentation night” with way too many high-on-coke-and-excitement boys and way too many high-on-beer-and-love-talking-about-football dads. When the evening kicked off, the woman who manages the whole club proudly announced that the club had been going since 1985 and I said to the dad next to me “I’ve been coming since 1985 when my first child started” and he said “REALLY??”. Then I didn’t talk to him again because it was meant to be a joke.
My daughter came with me thankfully. She kept me sane and kept mumbling about how she was about to die from boredom and then she said “OH NO, this is a disaster – I haven’t got any homework to do – I’m going to have to do some extra work just to get through this”.
Thankfully, the evening got better because my 8 year old was given “Most Improved Player” and I was SO proud.
Talking of being a proud parent – is it OK to be proud of a friend’s child for a minute? Well, I have known him since before he was born, so I think it counts….
Anyway, I need your help. Does anybody know Barack Obama? (this is not as deep a question as you think). I mean REALLY know him. I obviously KNOW him, because I’ve nearly finished his book and quite clearly we were separated at birth because we have SO much in common….he’s 44, he’s lived in the Far East and he smokes. But I mean personally. Because I’ve got to get this picture to him. He’s painted a 5 x 7 ft portrait of him made up of over 200 squares, each square containing a letter from Mr Obama’s election night speech. It is truly amazing:-

Now calming down a bit – wow, AWESOME indeed.
See I’m practicing with the capitals…..
