It is a sign of getting old when you buy a card for your friend that says “You are SO old that you used to organise your life with one of these”…..and on the front is a picture of a Filofax. The friend I have bought it for still uses a Filofax….
I’d understand it if it was a retro telephone or ticker tape or telex even (all of which I remember) but a paper diary? REALLY? Are we REALLY old if we are not putting our entire life into the hands of machines?
Another significant and telling sign that you are getting old is when people we know and love keep dying. Donna Summer was a big part of our disco scene in the late 70’s so I thought I’d better put a little token, sorry you’re dead song up. I love this version of “Love To Love You Baby” – was always that shocking slightly orgasmic approach – are her backing singers meant to be dressed up as sperm? I can’t quite tell.
