Congratulations to all those who got results yesterday – even if they weren’t what you wanted – it’s another milestone – another step closer to leaving home – another step closer to making decisions about your own future – even the perceived failures are there for a reason – so if you haven’t done as well as you’d hoped (or as well as your parents had hoped) – fear not, another path will open up and one day you will look back and be supremely grateful that you did what you did and not what you thought you were going to do…if that makes sense. Trust me, you will.

My daughter got her AS results yesterday – she’s done really well and she’s very happy. I’m very proud of her – although not this morning as she is grey and can’t get out of bed and I had to bring her a bucket just in case, owing to excessive celebrations with friends last night.

My oldest son has gone to work at Rewind Festival in Henley this weekend. Behind the bar. That should be an interesting new take on festival life for him – as judging by the fact that he had heard of precisely no one on the line-up I assume that the demographic age is going to be way older than him – maybe even as old as me, god forbid. It’s an 80’s music festival. SO WHY AREN’T I GOING?? I KNOW THEM ALL INTIMATELY?? Good grief – he even said “who is Blank Mangee?” (meaning Blancmange)! The B52’s are playing, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Chesney Hawkes (who I used to know from my EMI days although failed to find the photo when he challenged me…it’s here somewhere I’m sure), The Blow Monkeys, Belinda Carlisle, ABC, Nik Kershaw and so the list goes on….it’s not fair. I want to go.

I wonder what the drug scene will be like there (not that I know anything about drug scenes) I am just increasingly shocked at how many drugs are available at these festivals and I know that’s been the case since the beginning of festival life, but people are dying. Did that happen at Glastonbury when it started? Are the death rates increasing? I heard at a recent festival where there was one reported death that there may have been other deaths owing to a bad batch of ketamine. I haven’t seen any news reports about it thus far, so it would be wrong for me to go into details as I don’t know the facts. But all this chemical shit that are kids are taking IS NOT GOOD.

So in true festival style this morning I had to drive my son to the station with his huge rucksack, sleeping bag, pillow, food, wellies, general stuff for him to be in a tent all weekend – weather report not good – it will be pissing with rain. I’m not sure it would be my sort of thing at all to be honest. Wet, muddy and cold. Listening to old people. Refusing all drugs. Phone battery dies. I lose all my friends and have to wee in a bush. All my stuff gets nicked and I can’t buy a signature drink, because a) I don’t have any money and b) I don’t have a signature drink.

Nope. Not very jealous after all.

I don’t even like 80’s music.
