AND ANOTHER THING about being 40 something and invisible is that my eyes are going (and my knees and my back) and I keep forgetting to have my reading glasses about my person when I need them – probably because they make me feel old.
I was reading the paper yesterday pretending that I didn’t need glasses and holding the paper as far away as my arms would stretch – all about the poor man who died raising money for “Help For Heroes” whilst flying across the channel in a micro plane but my failing eyesight made me read it as “Help For Herpes“. After that I wasted quite a lot of time mulling over whether this was a good thing to have lost your life for and how you get into a charity like that without being slightly embarrassed ..
Then, after my committee MEETING (emphasised to annoy my children) last night for the fashion show I’m helping to organise I said I’d ask the friends that are coming with me if they want to invite their partners. So I sent a text to one friend saying “Do you want to bed your boyfriend on Thurs 11th Feb” instead of “do you want to add your boyfriend”….
My teenage son was meant to be in charge whilst I went to my meeting and then out for dinner. He gets paid to be in charge, but I’m not sure how good a job he does. I do expect a certain level of commitment to the job, but I think his expectations are lower. My list would include, clean teeth, read story, bed not too late, any plates in dishwasher, pay attention to your charge rather than ignore and watch TV. His list would be more like better stay in, better not have too many people round (less than 10 fine), better not get too drunk or smoke in house, better set alarm to stop playing on Playstation every hour to check what charge is doing.
Last time he did the job, my youngest child told me that he got bored of watching him on the playstation so went to bed on his own and my teenage son didn’t even notice. Last night I got a text from him “mum, she’s (she being his sister) just secretly put him to bed like 10 minutes ago when I was eating dinner so that she could claim she was babysitting him and get the money. Can u tell her off please?
Not sure. Think he’s doing a rubbish job. Perhaps they should split the money.
PS: “Mum Plus Two” – I can’t find you – can you let me know if you still want a ticket?
Imo
