I took my nearly four year old nephew to see The Gruffalo at Richmond Theatre and it was a huge success. He absolutely loved it and clapped, roared and laughed his way through the whole production.

I can’t say it’s the sort of thing that I love to go to – very pantomime humour, but of course I am not the target audience. He is and they couldn’t have appealed more to his sense of fun.

They cleverly get around any of it being scary by slowly introducing the characters so that you can see the humans behind them and they sing and dance and engage the audience throughout. The little mouse was very sweet and funny as she saw off a Fox, an owl and a snake before The loveable Gruffalo appeared on stage. Lots of basic humour that the kids all loved…..

If you have any 3-6 year olds, I would definitely recommend that you take them. They will love it.

It was his first outing to the theatre with me and he was a little nervous, packing his little backpack full of a tin of sweetcorn and some bacon (no idea where he thought I was taking him) but it was a roaring success and I loved his enthusiasm.

Ice-cream helped, obviously as we got in our seats a little early. Sorry, blurry photo, but you get the general idea:-
