I STILL have one child on holiday as his school has an inset day today. It’s been the longest half term ever and typically we weren’t able to take advantage of it because of teenage son’s exams. I bumped into one of the teachers earlier today “hasn’t it gone quickly?” she said to me. “No. Not at all” I told her, reminding her that she was the one having the break. Not me. Although secretly I’ve had a great week and enjoyed my mini lie-ins.
I am trying to discourage my daughter from singing Lily Allen’s “Not Fair” song in front of the school during an up and coming class assembly. I am hoping she is only joking, but she has been practicing all those very rude lyrics about wet patches and feeling unfulfilled after being with a selfish lover – rumour has it it’s about Jay Joplin, which disappoints me hugely – I’ve always quite fancied him….I bet Sam Taylor-Wood finds it all highly amusing. Still, he’ll be fine because human nature dictates that other women will want to be the one to prove her wrong.
I have told the children they can’t buy their dad a chicken for his birthday. Their plan hadn’t really been thought through and was going to cost him rather a lot of money:-
1 Chicken – £2.50
1 Egg cup – £0.99
Dad to pay for
1 Eggloo – £300
Doesn’t seem quite fair really.
My teenage son had his Maths and DT GCSE’s today. Your guess is as good as mine about how it went. Any translations of the following most appreciated:-
Me “So how did they go?”
Him: “Good”
Me: “How was the maths paper?”
Him: “Good”
Me: “Did you answer all the questions?”
Him: “Yup”
Me “Was the paper harder than you were expecting?”
Him “Not really”
Me “Was it easier than you were expecting?”
Him: “Not really”
Me: Well, what about DT? What sort of things did they ask you?”
Him: “Just questions”.
Me: “Like what?”
Him: “mum have you got any food, I’m STARVING”
“Oh bollocks to this” I thought to myself. Why would he want to talk to me about them. If he was unhappy with his exam I’d know about it so my guess is that he’s done REALLY well.

June 2, 2009I’m so glad I’m out the other end of the school schedule! Madette and Junior Mad are only 1 school year apart despite there being 23 months between them. We had years and years of public exams without a gap. That wasn’t something I factored in when I said “Shall we have another baby?” 😉

Jay Jopling is fanciable, I agree. But JJ = younger version of former Demon Lover (the one featuring in my comment on your 30 May post re the, erm, y'know) and attractions reduced by association – as they so often are …
