My son is very very old today. Nineteen. Good grief. How is it possible to have a child that old. I must be really old then. I have a proper proper adult boy still living with me. One who can now fully function in the real world (give or take a few more practice runs required at drinking responsibly).
I watched him on Sunday when we went to the pub where he works. It all looks good. He appears to be able to socialise successfully without picking his nose or farting or wandering off mid sentence. He appears to be able to engage with humans both older and younger than himself and most importantly he appears to be enjoying himself. Even more impressive is that he has just taken his girlfriend to Paris for a night. He organised and paid for the whole trip. All. By. Himself.
Great.
Is that job done then?
Unlikely.
Of course I know that his impressive levels of organisation and generosity won’t necessarily stretch to emptying the dishwasher or speaking to BT Broadband on my behalf or anything like that, but still. It’s all good.
But I miss having him as a baby. Where has the time gone?
Here we were, only minutes ago:-

and here is his hand against my brother’s new baby:-

December 21, 2011I read a brilliant quote the other day from someone who has a toddler: “the years go by but the afternoons are endless…” 😉 Your son sounds lovely, wish my bf would take me to Paris!

December 22, 2011He is a great guy, that’s what it is. I think good disposition and a good heart is something you are born with. Then, of course, it has to be nurtured, which you obviously most successfully did. Now he is a pleasure for the whole world to behold, not just you!
