Happy Mother’s Day to one and all.
Normally we would be dealing with a small dilemma about where to take our mother out for lunch and whether the children are going to make you breakfast in bed and a homemade card and what you want to do with your own children…and so on.
Not this year.
This year, all we want is for our elderly mothers to stay alive. We have asked them to stay in and self isolate for their own good. We are now worrying about how to keep them upbeat and fully stocked up. This year our gift to them is to stay away from them.
For those of us who are living with our adult children, I hope you enjoy a stroll in the local park with them and perhaps a lunch enjoyed at home as we find new ways to live for the next few months.
For those of you with small children, who are now off school for the foreseeable future, I feel your pain. But nevertheless at least for now we can get outside into the sunshine, walk, talk, listen, slow down and take the time to enjoy nature.
For all of us, this is a time of great unease as we worry about our parents, our children and our own health. Some of us have had to take hard decisions about who to isolate with and of course as a mother, I am staying put with my own children to ensure that I can look after them if they become ill. We are in this together, but the worry is huge. We have to keep going and try to keep everyone as buoyant and positive as possible.
Not easy, but my top tip is to make sure you have a LOT of alcohol available.
Not sure where this photo came from – I hope it’s OK to use it – just sums up the madness of where we currently are!
