DAY 5
I am now sun bed shaped. I have lost two of my children to the kids clubs, even in the evenings now, as they have made it very clear they prefer the company of their new friends to their mother. How totally unreasonable. Only my son and his girlfriend have deigned to join me for dinner so now I’m the only one who’s feeling green and hairy.
My daughter’s after dinner activity this evening with her group is “speed dating”. WHAT? She’s 15! More to the point, why can’t I come? NOT FAIR.
We all did the free scuba diving in the swimming pool and whilst it’s not quite the same as diving in Borneo it was good fun. The most energetic as I’ve been all week – except for the major adrenalin rush I’ve had every morning as I attempt to reserve sun beds for 5. SO STRESSFUL. I think people must leave their towels on the beds overnight because most of them are full even though I have to get up at the crack of dawn, sidle down to the pool and casually drop 5 towels, bags, suncream and books all over them, followed by a pathetic attempt to lie on several of them before sneaking off for breakfast hoping nobody has noticed. It’s not a good thing to admit I know, BUT EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING IT, so it has to be done. Thank god Builder Bloke and his little troop aren’t with me – wouldn’t get away with 10 beds in a row for sure.
Two of the single dads seem to be getting on well and I still don’t have any friends. I don’t care though, I am halfway through my third book now. SUCH a luxury. Can’t remember the last time I read so much in one go.
Reading “Freedom” now by Jonathan Franzen. Brilliant.
Here I sat at breakfast time:-

By lunchtime, not much had changed but the choice of beverage:-

So much so that by the end of the day I had a strange strip across my stomach where my book was – burnt all round the other areas of my stomach. Not a good picture but I’m going to show you anyway – ridiculous:-
