I expect that you are thinking how sad it is that I appear to have a compulsive need to blog whilst on holiday and why would I do that when I’m on HOLIDAY from normal life for goodness sake? I know. I agree. I should really GIVE EVERYONE A BREAK, including myself. I know, I know, I’ve had to ask myself the same question.

But. When holidaying with many people, the answer is not difficult.

Escapism.

I’m up in the wifi area with a shandy, sitting by the pool ON MY OWN. Everybody else is lounging around the villa making a mess. Or watching TV or listening to music. Doing their own thing.

This is my thing.

If I don’t have a teeny weeny bit of my thing I can go a teeny weeny bit mad.

Take for example last night. Or indeed lunchtime today. Us girls are outnumbered massively by blokey blokes. Testicle city. Blokes that don’t appear to know how to read a book that doesn’t have pictures in it (unless of course it’s written by Her Royal Greyness) and consequently it is a battle to turn the subject matter to anything other than football, farts and poo and no, I am not exaggerating. Holidays can boil us all down to our lowest common demoninator and I kid you not, the banter about farts and poo lasted for over an hour last night with much hilarity from those that own testicles, until the girls put their foot down and requested a change of subject. Although to be fair, the other subject they all know everything about and even did a quiz on it last night is “Friends”. Every single series and every single episode. Unbelievable how that programme has been so much a part of their lives.

It is even difficult to read a book around the pool with the boys around because unless they are plugged into their music they are chatting, endlessly. There was much chat about Kristen Stewart’s behaviour with a married man this morning as I read out the news from paper. I can’t believe she’s done that – to Liberty Ross or Robert Pattinson. NOT GOOD AT ALL and will she ever recover? He on the other hand, father of two young children deserves to be hung, drawn and quartered. We do find other topics of mutual interest around the pool – they generally involve bodies and their lack of essential covering and of course members of the opposite sex in general – oh and tanning skills – all the teenagers are obsessed with their tanning progress and are constantly comparing shades of skin colour and I can recognise that I am well and truly turning into an old person who tires of lounging in the sun when I listen to their plans to put Factor 10 on their face, 15 on their torsos, 20 above and below the bra and bikini bottoms, mix 10 & 15 together for eyelids and so on……it’s a full time job and exhausting.

CBA.

Reading lots about the impending Olympics now and wishing I was there. Enjoy x

Perhaps you should start discussing the aging effects of the sun, wrinkles, unseen skin damage and cancer just to cheer them all up a bit !
