I was very pleased to be invited to the first Hong Kong society’s women’s group lunch – not sure if that suggests that I’m getting old enough to look forward to that sort of thing or because I love the idea of being part of a Hong Kong group in London after all my time spent there OR that I was looking forward to meeting and listening to their speaker – kate Blewett. She is a multi BAFTA and Emmy award-winning documentary director and she talked at length about the trials and tribulations of filming inside China’s state-run orphanages in 1995 and the amazing reaction to the film “The Dying Rooms” when it was released the following year. It took them three years to reply to the sack loads of letters and cheques they received in the post!
She has subsequently done documentaries on the transplant trade, China’s Stolen Children, Bulgaria’s Abandoned Children, social welfare in the Ukraine and she is currently working on a programme all about child pornography and the growing sex trade on the internet – something we should all be concerned with.

I met some very interesting women – high powered business women born in China or Hong Kong and currently working here. They actually want me to go and talk to them about blogging and tweeting at some point! I’d love to do that….once I work out what I’m doing myself.
