I have just been to visit my father in hospital and he is much, much better. Phew. Phew. Phew.

I do think that visiting hospitals should be a life requirement – especially when you’re feeling particularly sorry for yourself because it reminds you how lucky you are to have your health. He is in ANOTHER ward this time. Thankfully they don’t all look quite as dead as in the other wards, but one was making revolting noises and another was snoring really loudly. The most cheerful patient was a man in his 50’s who’s back spontaneously snapped three months ago. He can’t walk. He’s had to completely rethink his life. What a nightmare.

I bought the FT Weekend. I like to pretend I’m very clever when in public and try very hard to read it. Mostly the articles make no sense whatsoever. The only bit I truly understand and can relate to is Miss Moneypenny’s column. Anyway, my mother told me recently that my Grandfather, who was in advertising was the man who was responsible for making the FT pink!!! If that is really true it was quite an achievement, I think. Like making bread square. Did you know that the pink paper is made in Finland? Where they clearly have lots of pink trees owing to lack of sunlight.

I note that the FT are launching “The World’s most luxurious website – How To Spend It.com” today. Is that going to work? I thought blatant over-the-top luxury and decadence was SO yesterday and certainly more than a little vulgar and insensitive in our current climate I would have thought. Anyway, I think I might launch another website today entitled “How To Spend What.Com?”

So agree with you about Miss Moneypenny. I have a lovely friend who does the FT's art stuff and sometimes I have to pretend I understand that, but is very hard work. Child One used to say her hamster preferred pooping on the FT because of the colour – clever your grandfather! xx

Great news about your dad!! As for How To Spend It – my colleague just anounced that he'd lost his "£500 cigar lighter" for the 2nd time in a fortnight. And seemed proud as punch. Really – is he so lacking in imagination that the best use of £500 is a lighter?? (And no – he isn't loaded enough not to miss it….)

Great to hear that your dad is improving!! Bizarre idea for a website in this day and age, but there has to be something for everyone, I guess!
