My 12 year old daughter has just recited to me her “Walking To School” poem:-
Every day seems the same
The delicious smell of the lovely breeze
As I sniff the summer breeze
I have a whiff of cocaine and sneeze.
She’s 12!! She’s not meant to know what cocaine is..let alone that it makes you sneeze. Should I be worried?
Additionally worrying was when she was on MSN tonight (as usual) and my son told me she was talking to a 41 year old bloke. “Oh don’t be so ridiculous”, she said, “all my friends pretend they’re stupid ages – one of my friends says she’s 80 – that doesn’t mean she’s a paedophile”.
I was recently advised by a friend to occasionally check the “history” of the computer in order to be aware of what the children are up to. I haven’t worked out how to do that yet, so in the meantime I decided to have a look at our computer’s most recent Google searches. This is apparently our current top 10:
How to draw a hamburger (my teenage son’s art homework)
Do ginger people smell? (somebody had mentioned that and so we looked online and according to Wikipedia they do in fact smell different as a result of different enzymes)
Mackerel (again, son’s art homework)
Hugh Grant blog (that was me – he hasn’t got one – he needs one, he needs to stop snogging girls that are far too young for him and start snogging, I mean, talking to me)
How to write a Christmas card in Mandarin (my daughter’s homework)
Club Penguin (The “Sim’s” equivalent for 7 year olds)
Best birthdays for 8 year olds (Again, my overly hopeful 7 year old – who mostly wants a surprise party).
Tutankhamen (7 year olds homework – which he titled “Too Tancarmooon”)
Sunderland results
Snow reports in Europe (me going skiing – hooray!)
Quite varied and random. But actually if the children find out I’m googling Hugh Grant, I’m going to be the one who’s in trouble….

family affairs
January 15, 2008My ex is a Sunderland supporter and consequently my poor children are too…..
I am quite sure Jemima Khan is lovely – I admire her hugely for living in Pakistan and being brave enough to leave – I don’t think they were right for each other, she is intelligent but still quite young. However, he has been recently spotted with very young university students and apart from a sexual attraction and an adoring person at his side I wonder what else he can think of to talk to them about.

January 15, 2008I think he’s been lost since splitting with Khan to be honest. I don’t think she was right for him either. Hugh found her interesting I’m sure but I can’t see what they had in common. She doesn’t seem to be really over her ex-husband or her time spent in Pakistan either. Hugh is like any rich and famous older man in that he can date much younger women than your average late 40s bloke can so that’s not surprising to see. I don’t think he will ever marry though.
