Two of my children are going skiing with their father for a week tomorrow. He’s not taking my youngest, because he has a different half term and would have to be taken out of school. I’m going to miss them. I hate this bit. Holidays apart. It’s the hardest time not to be with them. I have to pretend they are going on a school trip or going away with a friend.
It might however help, if I keep reminding myself how unpleasant it is to be living with a teenage boy. He swings from near manhood back to small toddler in a flash. He was doing his unbelievably complicated maths homework tonight, got a bit frustrated and therefore started doing a lot of singing with his Ipod in RIDICULOUSLY loud voice just to annoy everyone. Once he realised he was on a roll, he got up and danced about in a RIDICULOUSLY manic manner and then ate a banana in style of small child – that is to say he allows it to drool out of his mouth so that we all shout at him. This works really well as far as he’s concerned because his sister and younger brother can’t bear even the smell of banana (they overdosed on it as small children – far too easy for me to prepare to give them any other options) and so they go ballistic. Then he comes over to give me a kiss which at the last minute turns into a burp that he then blows into my face. IT”S REVOLTING.

February 9, 2008I don’t know much about teenage boys. However your description of the Ipod and mushy banana incident really made me laugh, in a poor-you-that-sounds-really-annoying kind of way. I can see glimpses of that sh*t already in my boy and he’s only six. When he’s bored, he thinks, “what can I do, I know, I’ll make my sister scream”.
