My children are all in Cape Town now. My daughter phoned on arrival. She knows I don’t want a repeat of last summer when I couldn’t reach them at all. I said my farewells yesterday but we were all fine – even my youngest child didn’t cry as we’re all going to be seeing each other in a couple of days. For the first time, when I hugged my daughter she threw her arms around my neck and not my waist because she’s taller than me now – it made me feel very small. Another milestone.
Shortly after I said goodbye to my children, I met up with three gorgeous (younger) men for a drink – which might also have had some bearing on why I wasn’t feeling miserable about my children disappearing. A few weeks ago I had inadvertently left my jacket at a friends leaving drinks and one of them had rescued it for me and so we arranged to meet up. Two of them used to teach at my children’s school and both have recently married – the third is possibly the most beautiful man you could ever hope to meet. The spitting image of Sawyer in “Lost” – same hair, stubble, big arms. The lot. Just heart stoppingly gorgeous. He was the one my friend once described as “sex on a stick”. Clearly if he had everything going for him he would have no friends at all. His saving grace is that he has an extremely bad stutter. Oh well. You can’t have everything in life. Clearly.
Anyway, I had a lovely time, drinking too much pub wine. Left them all to go home and promptly left the bloody jacket on the bus.
Typical.
