GOSH. All very odd. My daughter and I trekked all the way to the Excel Centre yesterday for an event but happened to stumble upon the most extraordinary sight once we’d arrived in the building. As it happened there were two events happening next to each other – one was the London Comic Expo and the other was a fashion event. Seriously, I thought we’d landed on another planet. Hundreds of people all dressed up in immensely lavish costumes. Initially we couldn’t work it out – were they serious fashionistas all going to the same event we were? They were certainly taking themselves and each other quite seriously, wandering about as if it was all perfectly normal. Which perhaps in their world it was.
Anybody ever been to one of those events and can explain a little more about it? After a while I could tell that a lot of them were dressed up as Japanese characters from the Manga books…..(I think)

November 1, 2011This was my first year at the MCM Expo at the ExCel London. My partner is a comic artist, so it was an opportunity for us to mingle with other professionals in the industry. What I hadn’t anticipated was the sheer number of attendance. Some 60,000 were reported to have come through the door! There were a lot if people dressed up (Cosplay) as their favourite comic/movie/manga/anime/video game character. There were a lot of Japanese merchandise as well as movie memorabilia. There were actors there signing, such as Anthony Daniels (c3po), Warrick Davis (Willow, amongst other things) and Kim Hartman of Alo Alo fame! The atmosphere was buzzing and would recommend the event to anyone.

November 9, 2011I went to the Excel for the expo.. In my opinion it was amazing! I wasn’t originally going to go, as my strange friends wanted to dress up as pokemon characters :S But then I found out that my some of favourite actors ever were going to be.. I didn’t go with my friends, or dress up, but I did go with my brother to meet these actors. Those actors were Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and Kai Owen (Rhys) from Torchwood!!!! 😀 I was absolutely starstruck..
It was a little confusing at first though, the mcm expo was nextdoor (with a opening gap to) to the memorabilia expo.. Autographs and the panel was on the mcm side, but photo’s with the stars was on the memorabilia side..
However, it was by far the best day of my life, just because I met them there! 😀 And its always fun seeing people dress up in strange costumes, even if I don’t know who they’re supposed to be.. Although I did see a DR Who cosplay- a LOT of people in a fez and bowtie, and there was a cpt. Jack 😛 x
