I went to a meeting at London Zoo yesterday – how cool is that?
I managed to divert my route to ensure that I went past the Gorilla enclosure and found five minutes to spend with one of my favourite animals slowly emerging for the day. The gorilla enclosure has been improved massively since I was last there which is reassuring and whilst I didn’t get a chance to check out the elephants et al, I was reminded about how a visit to the zoo is still one of the iconic days out for families and I wonder if I should do another trip with my children. At any age there is always something for everyone – even if you only like creepy crawlies and snakes or even really ugly vultures with wobbly bits so that you can’t work out quite which way it’s head has been put on it’s body:-.
Anyway, back to the gorillas…here is the female:_

The male just emerging from his house and checking out the scene:-

Then he does something a bit extraordinary with a bit of silk material next to him:-

He starts playing with it and getting it all into some sort of order, flicking it to where he wants it to be:-

and carefully arranging it – as it happens in order to sit on it:-

Then he takes up his regular place and sits down carefully and rather grandly I feel:-

Then we have a staring competition:-

and then he agrees to a selfie – I really must try harder to work out how to do them and make myself look less revolting – the reason I’m showing it is because the gorilla really was trying to lean in so it’s only fair to him if I show it. It’s not great I know, will do better next time:-

Dear person in charge of cleaning the windows – they need a good clean!

I also tried to find the baby tigers but they weren’t out and about. Shame. But we got up close and personal with this one eating a HUGE leg of something:-
