The World Cancer Research Fund has a new national campaign which I am definitely going to get involved in with my children. My youngest child is on a massive health kick pre the next football season because he’s changing teams and needs to be super fit. He’s running, skipping, playing tennis, football and basketball (no doubt instead of paying the relevant amount of attention to his end of year exams, but hey you can’t have everything…). We will try and take some photos and hope that others want to get involved. GOOD LUCK.
New research published by World Cancer Research Fund and the University of Bristol shows that hours spent outdoors with friends have the greatest positive affect on a child’s level of physical activity. However, researchers found children spend most of their after-school time indoors – either alone or with parents. Given the evidence that physical activity protects against cancer, getting into healthy habits during childhood is a big advantage when it comes to reducing the risk of getting cancer in later life. Active children are more likely to become active adults.
With this in mind, and an understanding of the struggles we all face in finding the time and energy to fit physical activity into our busy lives, World Cancer Research Fund has launched the Move More Challenge. As part of Cancer Prevention Week and in the run up to half-term, families are being encouraged to sign up to the challenge. This is an interactive, online tool that provides simple, physical activities tailored to you and your family – wherever you are, however much time you have and however energetic you are feeling.
If you are looking for fun activities for parents and children, whilst simultaneously nurturing the whole family’s health and wellbeing, they would love to get you all involved in The Move More Challenge too.
