FINALLY we managed a family get-together for my mother now that lockdown has been eased and she’s had her two vaccinations. I went and picked her up and brought her back to my house where she hasn’t been for 18 months to meet up with the fam. Inevitably, due to over-excitement it all got a bit raucous and my mother peaked too early and had to be put to bed before even eating her meal! She was still awake to witness the (gas) BBQ catching alight which could have gone horribly wrong. This was no doubt the reason for her indulging in too much champagne before the arrival of the meal. We had to start the cooking off again in the oven, which set back the meal time by quite a lot.
Lots of other dramas to contend with, but luckily no one could remember very much the next day.
My tiny mother arriving for the party and supported by my two boys:-
Here she is with all her grandchildren – she’s somewhere in the middle:-
My daughter looking as fresh as a daisy, having made smoked salmon blinis for starters:-
The BBQ meltdown – look at how the knobs have melted! They look like toasted marshmallows:-
The After Eight game…whereby you have to put the square of chocolate on your forehead and get it into your mouth, without using your hands. Mine was a massive fail and note to self, don’t do that again, it’s not a good look:-
Our end of evening group photo!:-
