I think I’m going to love being in our own house after all. Two nights ago I cooked dinner for my parents, my brother, his girlfriend, my boyfriend and my three children. It wasn’t easy. I had one saucepan, no glasses, no table, but 13 chairs (including new bar stools). However, it didn’t remotely matter. It felt lovely to have everybody in one room together, standing around my very large island.

Last night I had 10 people here to toast my new kitchen, before we went out for dinner. Again, lovely. Even if we did have to drink champagne out of cups.

The children are calming down. My daughter is obviously deliriously happy with her girly, flowery room (what was it I was saying about stereotyping? Her choice though..), my teenage son is really pleased to have his own, quiet room at the top of the house. When I pushed his bed over to the wall yesterday to make more space it exposed a “Nuts” magazine, which he can now read to his hearts content without being bothered by his younger brother.

My 7 year old is now happy. For how long I don’t know. I sorted out his room. Bought yet more Ikean furniture that had to be built, but put a desk under his bed, filled with stationary and files and general stuff. He woke up this morning at 7am, came and said hi to me and then went to sit at his desk. For ages. It won’t last obviously, but maybe it will make a difference.
