A strange thing happens round our neck of the woods once a year – a friend phoned me and asked if I wanted to join her in looking around other people’s gardens. The joy of being nosy was too great. Everyone wanders around feeling marginally guilty about being such sticky beaks and tries to pretend they are looking at a particularly unusual bit of grass rather than in through the curtains (which disappointingly are invariably shut – not that I noticed that of course – my friend told me).
It’s quite a relaxing way to spend an afternoon if you can avoid falling into the trap of having your stomach ball up with rage at the fact that your garden doesn’t look like their’s in the least. I can’t say it lifted my spirit as it was meant to, it made be go home and draw up plans to build an outdoor sitting room, complete with swimming pool….
I fell totally in love with one of them – every time you turned a corner another colour or shape hit you. It helped to be able to fit a pool in as well, but it was quirky and unusual – something different.
Here is one of the very large gardens, still waiting to grow:-
I do believe that if you look very carefully you will see Trevor Macdonald in the background:-

This was my favourite garden – with a little Moroccan style relaxing area complete with incense:-

It even has a lifestyle front door:-

Around another corner was a gorgeous little pool:-

and here is my top lifestyle image from the day. If I could sit at one of those chairs every day having my breakfast and writing I would be very very happy. Just heavenly:-

I’m storing the pictures of your grandmother’s old garden in a hope to one day be able try to emulate her. Have you got any of these? Would love to see them.
