We are all in shock. Our lovely (only six year old) ginger tabby literally dropped dead last night. Fell off a chair on to the floor and then stopped breathing. Sadly I wasn’t here but thank god my brother and sister in law were. My children – especially my daughter who adored him are absolutely devastated. Such a shock for them to have witnessed that as well. Something so sudden and unexpected. Death in all it’s harsh reality. The vet says he may have eaten something poisonous. Maybe he had a heart attack. Maybe we will never know now.

I’m so upset for them all – it seems so unfair and I can’t bear to see them so sad. It’s just so final and makes me wonder whether it’s a good idea to have pets at all. But, of course it is. He brought them much joy. I am sure once my daughter has stopped crying (24 hours worth nearly now) she will begin to find a place for him inside her to enjoy all his memories. For now it’s a bloody nightmare. I was relatively OK and had managed to hold it all together for the sake of the kids until I had to call up Sainsbury’s pet insurance this morning (and I promise this is not a sponsored insurance post) and the two people I spoke to could not have been kinder and sweeter or more sympathetic. They were so sorry and asked loads of questions about him and I ended up sobbing and answering her questions about when we’d got him as a kitten and about what a spectacular cat he was, and how he used to sit and even stand up and how much he was loved and really it was very surprising…..

I had only uploaded this photo to my desktop yesterday with a view to putting it on my blog because my daughter was delighted with her day-glo cat:-

Here he is doing his party trick:-

Pretending to be a seashell:-

How sad.

That’s awful, I know exactly how you guys feel. I was away in Glasgow when my cat fell off the balcony, bf found her later that day but it seemed she hadn’t suffered, for which I am grateful. I just wish I had been there to prevent it happening or be with her in her last moments. I think it took me a couple of weeks to stop crying at any random moment, and sometimes there are moments when I really miss her still (am tearing up now). Your cat was gorgeous and you gave him a good home, it will feel different for a while. Just treasure the memories and the fun you had with him x

Aaah. That is so sad. I know. Somehow there is always guilt but I will remind my daughter of your wise words in due course when she has had her moment to simply grieve without feeling she has to put it into some sort of place…..not sure how long that will be but I hope not too long for her. Lx

She’ll get there, eventually… poor kid. Inka’s only been gone for about 3.5 mths, we made her a little gravestone and took her to the pet cemetery and planted a rose where she is. Lots of hugs to you all x

I’m so sorry to hear about this. So sad. Our pets really do live at the heart of the family I think. Your cat made a beautiful seashell!

Ah- so sad for you all. What a month November is for you! You can have one great big Remembrance Sunday every year and then a big, stiff drink to help you recover. At least, like all who die way before their time, he will be remembered as full of life, fun and cool tricks. Not like P’s cat, Fluffy, who at 17 should have been renamed Mangy and could only eat liquidised tuna! Thinking of you xxx
