I was SO excited about my cyberworld connection story that I couldn’t be arsed to cook and so we all went to McDonalds for supper. Sometimes I have to force my children to come with me because I’ve been eating that stuff for 30 years and love it and the kids are like, “oh, do we have to? Can’t we have something a bit more healthy?”…..
and then the role reversal thing got even worse….
I told them all about my freaky story – making contact with a random stranger on the internet and finding out that her people know my people and all three of my children stopped what they were eating and looked at me with their mouths open in amazement and then my teenage son said “MUM! ARE YOU MAD? How do you know this isn’t just some fat old bloke making stuff up who’s going to lure you into a trap?” You can’t go meeting complete strangers off the internet. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?”
Oh no. I’m SUCH a bad role model for my children.
Although perhaps it just goes to show that as parents living today, we generally fear the worst in life and see danger around every corner for our children, particularly those cyber corners that we don’t understand because they are blurred and can be as huge as the universe and maybe we shouldn’t. There’s a lot of love to be found out there!

Having just read the Life’s Rich… post and been as you, slightly freaked, but on the other hand agreeing with your Mother’s stance; things happen for a reason – it was meant to be etc. and the 5 degrees of separation theory. Now the children’s reactions are just priceless…and of course they are so right (about McDonalds at any rate). Once again you made me really laugh at the end of the day (the end of a very long day looking after my ailing Parents) – talk about role reversal! x

(We’ve had a few dodgy alley stories in the neighbourhood of late.) What did I get busted doing yesterday? Yes, taking a short cut through the alley. Tut tut mother.
