My teenage son had two A levels exams today. I fed him scrambled egg and fussed over him in the hope that it would help – said things like “be really careful on the way to school, don’t be late, don’t forget to read all the questions, make sure you turn over all the pages in case you miss anything, have you got all your pens????” and so on as if he needed any information like that now…..he did note how strange it was that 13 years of maths education starting with 1+1 was about to culminate in an hour and a half exam – quite sad really when you think about it like that. Scary to think what was going on in his head this morning – all those equations! He found it really really hard. Oh well, done now. Fingers crossed.

I went away for the weekend – encouraged by my friends up north to escape for a minute and disappear into the green rolling fields of the countryside to calm down, get a new perspective and catch up with some lovely old friends.

They live in the Peak District. Which is a long way to go for a night, but never mind. We had a lovely evening with friends and spent some time with my Goddaughter who I see so rarely she barely knew who I was. Not good.

This was the view from their house:-

My Goddaughter, less than happy about her walk in the wind and rain:-

We went for an vastly abbreviated walk on Sunday owing to the atrocious weather, the car broke down so getting back to London was interesting – there was a problem with the battery which meant you couldn’t turn it on and the only way to start it was by pushing it down several hills! (luckily there are a few of those where they live) and it took us five hours to get back – and that was without stopping in case in refused to start again!
