I’ve just finished doing a really interesting course – learning about how to modify Pilates exercises specifically for ante natal and post natal pregnancy. Different exercises and considerations are required for each separate trimester and in the first few months after having a baby.
If there is anyone out there who knows of any research that has been done about pregnancy and Pilates then please do let me know. There appears to be many European guidelines about exercising in pregnancy but nearly all of them are for exercise that involves aerobic activity. Very little for yoga, Pilates and things like Tai Chi that I can find. Clearly the rules are different depending on the country you live in because if you look at Youtube videos – in the States women are doing sit-ups into their third trimester whereas we wouldn’t do that here – too much of a strain on the abdominal muscles that are already massively stretched. So what is best? Surely there must be some information somewhere I can read?
