My aunt took me to the hottest new restaurant in town last night – and she should know, she works for Conde Nast International.
It’s called the Pollen Street Social which strangely enough is in Pollen Street, Mayfair. Tucked down a little alley off Hanover Square:-
WHAT A COOL PLACE! The chef and owner is Jason Atherton, formerly of Maze WHO ACTUALLY CAME OVER AND HAD A CHAT WITH US! There was a bar area for all the gorgeous casual drop-in’s from the Vogue building round the corner and then a large restaurant in the next room. Somehow the place felt casual and unassuming but with deeply glamorous undertones.
We sat at a table in the bar and had a fantastic evening. The food was amazing. A proper foodie menu – exciting and innovative and I am loving the new trend for “small plates” as an option. I had a very pretty delicious salmon starter whilst my aunt had quails. Then we had an unexpected complimentary plate of scallops (just because Jason clearly loves my aunt) followed by rack of lamb for me and cod in something for my aunt. SORRY. I KNOW. I should have stolen the menu or written it all down so that I can remember what else was there.
Honestly, I’m not sure Jason is going to thank me for those photos – I can’t believe I didn’t get a picture of him when he came over for a chat – never mind, another time. The point is, you have to go and check it out (book first if you want to eat) – you SO won’t be disappointed.
